NaNoWriMo – Day Twenty-Two

November 22, 2014 By Christina E. Pilz

My character got arrested today. Again.

And I got sucked down the interwebs rabbit hole trying to find a picture of a Victorian version of a paddy wagon. Only I couldn’t find one, even though kept clicking and clicking. In the end, I returned to the story and just made up what kind of wagon that a constable would use to haul a criminal off to someplace to be held until the quarter sessions in June. Just Made. It. Up. Can you believe it?

My friend Wendy and I have been checking in with each other, sharing our word counts, and talking a bit about the issues and themes that come up in our daily writing. Which makes it nice, having someone to talk to who’s not going to judge me about my subject matter.

Here’s the current word count:

Day One – 1,998

Day Two – 2,122

Day Three – 1,820

Day Four – 1,820

Day Five – 1,930

Day Six – 1,601

Day Seven – 1,729

Day Eight – 2,363

Day Nine – 2,175

Day Ten – 1,782

Day Eleven – 2,124

Day Twelve – 2,008

Day Thirteen – 1,776

Day Fourteen – 1,231

Day Fifteen  – 2,168

Day Sixteen – 2,559

Day Seventeen – 1,743

Day Eighteen – 2,101

Day Nineteen – 1795

Day Twenty – 1978

Day Twenty-One – 4,396

Day Twenty-Two – 2,477

This first vid is based off of a production from Soomo Learning, who did the original, which you can find here. I like this version (done by MindMattersMost) because the vidder added clips from the movie The Patriot and John Adams, which gives it a lot of colonial flavor. The song is called “Too Late to Apologize” by Timbaland.

The second vid is my favorite Schoohouse Rock vid, EVAR. It’s the Colonial thing, gets me every time.

Here’s the original Soomo vid for Too Late to Apologize, for all you purists out there.

Sorry I fell off the earth; got bronchitis/sinus infection, became zombified.

The second photo on this page of a “Black Maria” is dated later than your story, and it’s in the US not England, but it may be helpful.

This article says the term Black Maria was common in the 19th century. I remember reading it in novels set in that era.

    Hope this helps!

My two month word count is up to 31,000. I’m not as far along as I’d hoped, but yeah, bronchitis.

BTW, do you know how to tag these posts so I’ll be notified if you answer me?

You are most kind; I looked the Black Maria up and it seems to match with what I had in mind. Thank you!

Your word count is excellent, especially since you’ve not been feeling well. I hope you’re getting better.

I am going to check into figuring out how to get a checkbox or something so that when you comment, you can determine whether to follow the comment. I’ve seen this in other blogs, and never thought about doing it myself, so thank you for the suggestion!
